The NYF Conference was an eye opening event for me, as a climate change advocate and women empowerment activist, I had limited knowledge and experience in the field of EcoFeminism. Over the years, all I have heard about Feminism are based on stereotypes and misconceptions. One of the misconceptions I heard about Feminists was they are highly educated people who are trained to challenge the fight Men. But attending the Young Feminists Conference by Netright, one of my key takeaways was Feminism is built on local knowledge and literature and also it is about challenging systems to provide equal opportunities for all, regardless of who you are. One of the key things that also caught my attention was the sector I find my self, “Climate Justice and EcoFeminism”.
Ecofeminism is a movement that connects the dots between environmental degradation and the oppression of women, arguing that both are linked to patriarchal systems of power. It emphasizes the importance of women's empowerment, sustainable development, and environmental stewardship, while critiquing the destructive impact of industrialization and capitalism on people and the planet. By promoting a holistic and inclusive approach, ecofeminism seeks to address the interlinkages between social and environmental justice.
